6 weeks of focused support
Week 1: Start with the Toolkit overview
Get oriented to the Grade 3 Toolkit, the Toolkit Overview, the Appendix, and the best place to begin. We’ll map out a simple path so you know what to use first and how to avoid overplanning.
Week 2: Launch instruction through estimation challenges
Use the Toolkit’s estimation challenges to introduce and support Grade 3 math instruction, not just as warm-ups or extras. We’ll look at how the Toolkit can help you launch initial instruction across major Grade 3 standards.
Week 3: Use the Info Gap framework
Apply the Toolkit’s core framework: Create an Info Gap, Make an Estimate, Close the Gap, Refine and Share, Reveal and Connect. We’ll focus on how Info Gaps help build curiosity, critical thinking, reasoning, and creative problem-solving.
Week 4: Teach and review with EIC
Use EIC: Estimate-Investigate-Calculate as a structure for teaching and reviewing concepts like multiplication, division, rounding, addition, and subtraction. We’ll focus on how to move students from estimation into investigation, calculation, and mathematical connections.
Week 5: Use the Toolkit games with purpose
Plan and facilitate the games inside the Toolkit so they support fluency, reasoning, discussion, and engagement instead of feeling like disconnected extras.
Week 6: Build a sustainable Grade 3 routine
Create a realistic plan for using the Toolkit across the school year, including what to repeat, when to revisit materials, and how to keep the routine manageable during busy weeks.
